MR. PETER REMY died at his residence in this city on Saturday morning, aged 52 years, 7 months and 22 days.  He came to this country from Nassau, Germany, in 1844 and settled in this city.  He first studied law under the late ex-Governor T.H. Ford, and afterwards was connected as salesman with the store of Endly & Wigle, Frost & McBride, and Sturges, Grimes & Co.  The year 1852 found him in California, where he remained four years.  On his return he engaged in the dry goods business with A.W. Remy, his cousin, but in 1864 the firm was dissolved.  In the following year, he became a member of the wholesale grocery ad liquor firm of Remy, Hedges & Co., subsequently changed to Remy, Hedges & Walter, with which he was associated for fourteen years.  Mr. Remy held various offices of public trust, serving two terms as township treasurer, one as Infirmary director and for six years was a member of the city board of equalization.  He was a devoted member of St. John's Evangelical Church at which place appropriate funeral services were held on Monday afternoon, after which the remains, followed by a large concourse of friends and relatives, were interred in the Mansfield Cemetery.

** THE HERALD (dated 31 May 1883, Vol. 33, No. 28) stated that Edward and Frank Remy were appointed executors of Peter Remy's estate.**
